The Sundarban region on the border between India and Bangladesh is characterized by his large number of archipelagos. This disadvantageous terrain puts forth further obstacles for the poor local population to receive adequate medical treatment and other social service. Together with Partners Zonder Grenzen (PAZ) the AFD team will support the Sundarban Social Development Centre (SSDC), a long-established local NGO, in their quest to improve the local Children’s Hospital’s current economic situation through so called Income Generating Activities (IGA). Further, the SSDC already provides medical services through a clinic boat that visits the various islands six days a week. However, so far the boat has relied on external donors, our AFD team is supposed to explore ways how this dependency can be overcome in the future.
