The Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation will deliver a research program in industrial sustainability and sustainable living, providing solutions to important engineering-related issues facing society in the 21st century.
The mission of the Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation is to foster and facilitate innovations in the identification, analysis, and implementation of economically and environmentally sustainable engineering processes associated with energy, water, food, and chemical production and use. In particular, the Centre will promote and sponsor activities which identify and address major challenges and opportunities at and beyond the horizon of traditional industry development times with potentially game-changing outcomes and large impacts.
The strategy of the Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation is to i) identify potentially game-changing processes related to sustainable production of large quantities of water, food, chemicals, and/or energy, ii) build conceptual engineering process models and perform detailed techno-economic and life cycle analyses on the new processes, iii) identify the key scientific and engineering problems requiring solution to enable game-changing processes found to be both economically and environmentally sustainable, and iv) work to couple specific research groups with financial sponsors to conduct the work needed to overcome the scientific and engineering barriers.
