Take The Stage! Girls Rock London x FT Workshop

DIY Space for London
Organisator der Veranstaltung DIY Space for London

#var:page_name# cover

This workshop is a collaboration between Girls Rock London and First Timers Fest and is open to all girls, women, trans and gender nonconforming folk.

This workshop will take a look at what it means for us to take up space in a music-making environment. We will discuss the politics of taking up space and what it means to be authentic in our performance, learn about how to warm up our bodies and voices to prepare for gigs, and try out making some noise on stage in a safe and supported environment.

Please come in comfy clothes as we will be moving around a bit!

It is necessary to book a place in advance for this workshop! Maximum capacity of 40 people but we need at least 10 to sign up for it to go ahead!

If you you like to book a concession/free place then please email

💖 About Girls Rock London 💖

Girls Rock London (GRL!) is a music project for girls, women, trans and/or gender non-conforming folks in London. They are part of a movement of rock camps that take place all over the world, united by a desire to achieve gender equality in the music industry and to ensure that all girls, women, trans and/or gender non-conforming folks get the chance to make music! The aims of the project are to empower people – regardless of previous musical experience – to write and perform music, and to build self-confidence.

GRL! ARE CURRENTLY CROWDFUNDING for their 2018 programme:

💖 About First Timers Fest 💖

FTF is a season of workshops followed by a two-day festival where every band plays its first show. FTF is about getting new faces and voices in bands, and doing something about the lack of diversity in the make-up of the DIY music community.

As a direct way of addressing the lack of diversity in the make-up of the DIY music community, our workshops centre people who are disabled (visible or non-visible), LGBTQIA+ folk, people of colour, and women. As well, we are here to support people who have never played in a band before // never played the instrument they've always wanted to learn before because of their class, race, gender, mental health, etc.

Our 2018 festival will be taking place on May 5th & 6th 2018.

💖 About the venue, DIY Space for London 💖

DIY Space for London is on a single floor level, with access ramps, widened doors, an accessible toilet and plenty of space for manoeuvring and getting away from crowds. There is plenty of seating available and the toilets are gender neutral and accessible.

On entering the venue there is a small ramp, which is quite steep and might require assistance going up and down. If you are a wheelchair user and not travelling with anyone, let us know in advance you are coming so someone at the venue can be there to assist.
