(2 sessions- Jun 15, 16)

Learn about basic composition while creating your own unique wall hanging. Cathy will guide you through the steps in choosing florals to fussy cut and layer with wool to appliqué a vase of flowers. Class fee includes kit!

Your kit includes: an assortment of hand dyed wool, 1 yard of Soft Fuse, background fabric, access during class to a wide assortment of embroidery floss for stitching, a #22 chenille needle for stitching, a beading needle and small assortment of beads to take home for additional embellishing. I also bring a large tote full of assorted fabrics students can access should they need additional flower, leaf, bugs, or other motifs to add to their design.

Fabrics to bring to class: Please bring 6-8 fabrics featuring flowers that range from 1 ½ to 3 inches or so. You are going to need 12 to 15 flowers to choose from. Also, be on the lookout for fabrics that have larger leaves that can be fussy cut. Paisley fabrics also work well for leaves. Please make sure the fabrics do not come from the same collections and that you have as varied an array of colors and shapes as possible. Don’t avoid the flowers you don’t like or the colors you don’t like. This project needs a broad assortment. If you find flowers that are a bit larger, it’s ok to bring them as well. Please don’t bring fabrics that have a bunch of small flowers. Remember you need to be able to fussy cut them out. Please do not precut any of the flowers out prior to class.

Paper Scissors and Fabric Scissors. Short shanked are best so you can maneuver around the cotton flowers for fussy cutting as well as for cutting wool. Really small scissors don’t work very well. The blue handled Karen Kay Buckley Serrated scissors are fabulous for cutting out wool. When in doubt, bring an assortment!

Clover 3/4” White headed applique pins. You will be pinning the wool pieces to your cotton background. This is a technique that is part of the class so please bring these specific pins.

Bring a project container or bag for your project. You will be creating a lot of pieces and you don’t want to lose anything. A gallon size baggie works well.

You do not need to bring a cutting mat, ruler, or rotary blade to this class.

Pencil and paper are always handy for note taking.

Embroidery floss will be available for use during class. OPTIONAL: If you have #8 or #12 Pearl Cotton, please feel free to bring it. You will want bright colors to stitch with.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a lunch and snacks. Most important, bring your smile and creativity!
