Buckfast Abbey is celebrating 1,000 years since its foundation with a nine day festival of sacred music. Commencing on Saturday April 14th they will be hosting performances from the world renowned Westminster Cathedral Choir, the Choir of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, as well as the premier performance of a specially commissioned work by Matthew Martin.
On Friday April 20th, the Grand Opening Recital showcasing the first organs made by the Italian firm Fratelli Ruffatti in the UK will be given by Martin Baker, Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral. Martin is highly sought after as an organist, a specialist in improvisation, and his playing is renowned for its verve and spontaneity.
