The Windham Textile & History Museum (the Mill Museum) has a fantastic day of fiber fun planned for Saturday, May 5. Fiber Art Day features a full day (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) of activities devoted to the fiber arts: quilting, weaving, and spinning! There will be vendors, demos, a fiber book sale, and a food truck. Chaplin, CT, fiber artists Catherine Whall Smith will speak about "What's New in Fiber Art Publications," and Mill Museum Executive Director Jamie Eves will talk about "The History of Early Sewing Machines." There will be a one-day showing of two of the Rhode Island Mothers Against Gun Violence quilts on display -- showing that the fiber arts can be both topical and thought-provoking. Quilters, weavers, and spinners will demonstrate their crafts. And, as if that wasn't enough, Fiber Art Day also kicks off the Mill Museum's two-month exhibit, "Local Color #3: Inspired by Science." The Museum's third annual art quilt exhibit, in conjunction with SAQA-CT, features a whole room full of absolutely stunning art quilts by some of the state's finest fiber artists, all expressing the theme of science. This is a traveling show, and we are very lucky to have it here at the Mill Museum for May and June. All of this, and the rest of the Museum, too, on Fiber Art Day, May 5. The Mill Museum is located at 411 Main Street, Willimantic, CT.
