|Über uns||Phil Fraser's unique, contemporary work show his passion & love of rivers, woodlands & moorland. Light, colour and form take centre stage in all his work.|
Painting for Phil is a privileged and compulsive activity which he has pursued almost continuously for the last 35 years. He has used watercolour exclusively as a medium, because of its ability to convey light through translucent washes of colour. Although his paintings are mainly of landscapes the real subject matter is light itself.
Phil studied Art at Leeds Art College and Art History at Essex University but is largely self taught. His greatest influences are Cezanne and the Impressionists and most of his work stems from ‘plein-air’ studies.
Living in the Dales affords him immediate access to stunning landscapes which are a constant source of subject matter and inspiration. Most visitors to his studio and gallery at the top of the main street in Grassington share his love of the area and most often comment on his unique ability to capture the different moods of the local moors, rivers and woodland.
In addition to cards, prints and originals, Phil is happy to accept commissions of local landscapes / views which are not significantly more expensive than paintings of a similar size and quality in the gallery.
