The aims of the New Zealand Academy of Music are:
(a) To give students (of all ages) the opportunity to learn musical instruments and/or sing in group lessons
(b) To develop the musical and social skills necessary to be able to play effectively in an ensemble;
(c) To provide ensemble experience for students to develop performance skills;
(d) To advance musicians through individual, private lessons where appropriate
(e) To compliment classroom programs in the development of music throughout the school; and
(f) To provide an extra dimension to the school music program.
(g) To set the educational standards for instrumental music New Zealand/ Aotearoa.
(h) To expose students of music to the best instrumental music teachers and ensemble directors that New Zealand has to offer.
(i) To use the most up to date music teaching pedagogy to help students achieve their musical goals
(j) To provide ongoing opportunities for our teaching staff to further develop their pedagogy and skills
(k) To be the most sought after community music teaching Academy in New Zealand with a reputation for excellence
