Beschreibung SGU receives grant, becomes partner in SD Allied Health Training Consortium.

Sinte Gleska University is the recipient of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (T.A.A.C.C.C.T.) Grant in the amount of $2,291,835.00 from the U.S. Department of Labor. The grant was awarded to South Dakota’s four technical institutes, and two tribal colleges, SGU and Oglala Community College, to form a consortium, the “South Dakota Allied Health Training Consortium”.

This consortium will partner with the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR), the South Dakota Department of Education (DOE), the South Dakota Department of Health, South Dakota’s Workforce Investment Board, and key health care industry partners, such as, Avera Medical, Sanford, Good Samaritan Society, Rapid City Regional Healthcare, and the Indian Health Services, to name a few, to provide multiple and innovative pathways for the unemployed, under-employed, veterans, recent high school graduates, T.A.A.-eligible workers, and others who want to make a life-change in their field of occupation, to attain a higher education in two years or less, while being prepared for employment in high wage, high-demand, high-skill occupations in the Health Care field.

South Dakota’s four Technical Institutes (TI’s) make up the rest of the consortium: Southeast Technical Institute (Sioux Falls), Lake Area Technical Institute (Watertown), Mitchell Technical Institute (Mitchell), and, Western Dakota Technical Institute (Rapid City). Southeast Technical Institute is the lead school of this grant.

Other goals of the South Dakota Allied Health Training Consortium are to serve rural communities and reservations, and to increase the number of adults earning certificates, degrees, diplomas, and nationally recognized certificates.
