|Über uns||The Tacoma Film Festival is a celebration of independent film mirroring the diverse and eclectic sensibilities of Western Washington’s second largest city.|
Known as the “City of Destiny,” Tacoma is the second largest metropolitan area in Washington State. Since the mid-90s, a thriving arts community has grown up within and out of Tacoma’s gritty, blue-collar roots as a port-town. The city has undergone a renaissance in the past 20 years, bringing in delicious restaurants and cafes, fashionable and quirky boutiques, as well as a number of galleries that supplement the beautiful theatres and world-renowned museum district that already graced the downtown area. The Tacoma Film Festival is an important facet in this dynamic community of artists and art enthusiasts
The Tacoma Film Festival also programs Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film at the Grand Cinema. Where we are the only festival in the world to bring the honorees together for a week of film, dialogue and creativity. Past alumni include Ryan Gosling, Ellen Page, Hilary Swank, Lena Dunham, Rooney Mara, Lucy Walker and Derek Cianfrance.
This past year the festival exceeded what it has ever been before. We had workshops with animators from Disney, Leonard Maltin hosted the weekend festivities and we played many award-winning films including Kumiko the Treasure Hunter, Zero Motivation, Before I Disappear and the recently Oscar nominated shorts The Phone Call and The Dam Keeper.
