Established in 2004, The d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards immediately proved itself as one of the top visual art competitions, not only in Queensland but further afield.
The Awards is a fitting tribute to one of Australia’s most popular artists, d’Arcy William Doyle. Doyle lived and painted in Mudgeeraba from 1973 until his death in 2001.
Between 1986 and 1993, d’Arcy Doyle was Australia’s top selling artist, both in quantity and money value. Doyle painted mainly landscapes, horses and typically Australian characters. Apart from his art, this Awards will help perpetuate his name into the future.
The d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards was originally created to encourage emerging artists and has quickly gained a reputation for good quality art at reasonable prices. The Doyles, as colloquially known, now receives entries from top professional artists. A win at The Doyles has been an important stepping stone in each winning artist’s career. Indeed, all winners from the past eight years are now full-time professional artists. Hopefully this trend will continue.
