“Emil Garleanu” Special School is a purpose built day school for pupils with disabilities opened in 1979.
“Emil Garleanu” Special School is not the only school in the County for pupils with disabilities (there are 4 schools) and so draws pupils more from south-east of Galati. The school roll in September 2012 was approximately 102 pupils, spanning an age range from 7 to 18 years. The pupils levels of achievement cover a very wide range, demanding a similarly wide and flexible response in the school’s organisational and curriculum arrangements.
The school is currently organised into two departments:
The Primary Department covering I to IV classes.
The Secondary Department covering V to X classes.
School Mission Statement
To facilitate a welcoming, caring environment in which the educational and therapeutic needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities can be addressed effectively. The whole curriculum at “Emil Garleanu” Special School will be broader than the National Curriculum and access to the curriculum driven by individual pupil needs. “Emil Garleanu” Special School will treat each of its pupils with proper respect and ensure that their rights, needs, aspirations and personal preferences remain central to the schools organisation and they are empowered to benefit from a meaningful, contributing and rewarding adulthood.
“Emil Garleanu” Special School will work in partnership with other key players in the field and endeavour to keep abreast of national initiatives to ensure that the schools specialist facilities, staff expertise and other SEN related provisions are of the highest quality possible so all pupils may benefit from equality of opportunity, regardless of the degree of their personal disability. We will strive towards recognition as a national special school of excellence and enable its pupils to benefit from a learning environment that is safe, relevant, inclusive and purposefully creative.
