Description The 85th Mountain Infantry Regiment is a Northwest based living history group focused on the formation of mountain troops within the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1941. It looks to preserve the memory and educate the public on the history of both the Army Ski Patrols within the 3rd and 41st Infantry Divisions, as well the 85th Mountain Infantry Regiment while they were stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington during the winter of 1941-42. Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountain Ranges was where these units tested the concept of mountain warfare and developed a training doctrine that would be later put into practice when the 10th Mountain Division was formed at Camp Hale, Colorado in 1942.
