Mission Students learn to use exercise, sport, games, and dance in age-appropriate programs for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. Through a multidisciplinary approach, students gain the skills necessary to work with individuals and diverse groups in a variety of settings such as schools, community health centers, hospitals, recreation centers, and the workplace.

Students may specialize as teachers coaches, or adapted physical educators. A teaching practicum and field experience are required.
Description THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM prepares students for New York State Teacher Certification for Physical Education for grades Pre-K to 12. The program provides students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to develop, teach and promote fitness and wellness programs. Students learn to use exercise, sports, games and dance in age-appropriate programs for Pre-K to 12.

THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION NON TEACHER CERTIFICATION PLAN of study does not lead to NYS Teacher Certification but introduces the students to a range of professions related to physical education beyond teaching in schools. The program provides students with multidisciplinary experiences thatprepare them for graduate studies in the areas of Exercise Science, Health Education and Promotion, Physical Education, Sport Management, Youth Development and Coaching. The program is 120 credits that include general education, 24 credits of physical education core, 15 credits of physical education electives in the areas of Community Health Promotion, Health Education, Physical Education and Sport Management, 3-8 credits of anatomy and physiology and 18-24 credits of general education electives that supports a chosen area of concentration determined through advisement.


THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH EDUCATION TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM is a dual certification program. It prepares students for New York State Teacher Certification for both Physical Education and Health Education at Pre-K to 12 grades. The program provides students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to develop a program/curriculum and teach and promote fitness and wellness in schools.
