What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is an ancient Holistic bodytype therapy founded in Japan some 3500 years ago. With its bases deriving from Oriental Medicine (TCM). Shiatsu, along with most other Natural Therapies, views the human body as a whole not just a symptom. The body is seen as a self healing organism that is in a constant state of regeneration, renewal and repair. Circumstances, stress and lifestyle chooses can disrupt this process, causing disharmony and throwing the body into a Sympathetic Response (Flight or fight) which effect the follow of the body's energy system causing dis-ease and/or physical alignments to manifest in the body (Body system consists of 12 Meridians and 2 Governing Meridians that act as channels or rivers of energy, life force, prana) The practioners role therefore is to act as the medium in assisting the individual to reconnect with this innate ability to heal, to create and restore balance within the body, returning to a Parasympathetic response, which in turn creates an overall sense of harmony and wellbeing.
What to expect?
Shiatsu is preformed on a futon at ground level. The receiver remains fully clothed in the 1 hour treatment. The Therapist will use many techniques throughout the treatment such as kneading, accupressure points, stretching techniques, rocking, elbows, knees.
