Alhawiat - Women and resilience in the Middle-East cover
Description Alhawiat is an association founded by the photojournalist Chloe Sharrock and the International Relations analyst Diane Semerdjian, exploring collective memory of the Middle-East through the resilience mechanisms of women in times of conflict.
Establishing the first chapter in Lebanon, Alhawiat is gathering the testimonies of Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian women and empowering them through story-telling and photography in order to promote peace-building and identity reconstruction.
Articulated around a photography and multi-media project and a multi-disciplinary pole of research, Alhawiat tends to develop itself in other countries of the Middle-East, and develop conferences and workshops based on every women's stories.

Building a collective memory from individual stories is necessary for the identity construction of a society, in order to prevent the mistakes of the past to be repeated.
