We help people fight kidney disease and live healthier lives. We achieve our mission by providing financial support to patients in need, and by delivering programs that educate, build awareness, and drive advocacy, resulting in greater public understanding and ultimately the prevention of kidney disease.

In 1971, a group of friends came together to help one person afford the cost of dialysis care. They established the nonprofit American Kidney Fund. Since then, we have been proud to help more than 1 million U.S. dialysis patients overcome the financial challenges of living with kidney failure.

Last year, we helped 1 in 5 of the nation’s dialysis patients pay for their treatment-related expenses, providing grants to more than 93,000 people in all 50 states.

Thirty-one million Americans are living with kidney disease, and 1 in 3 are at risk. To address this enormous public health threat, we provide many vital programs and services, including public and professional health education materials and courses, the Kidney Action Day® community outreach program, a nationwide Advocacy Network, and a toll-free health information HelpLine (866.300.2900Call: 866.300.2900).

We depend on the generosity of the American public to carry out our mission. We offer numerous ways to give. Many individuals have joined KIDNEYNATION, our fundraising community dedicated to funding the fight against kidney disease.

Spending 97 cents of every donated dollar on programs and services, AKF consistently receives the highest ratings from the nation’s charity watchdog groups.
