|About||ARIS (Akademische Raumfahrtsinitiative Schweiz) is a student association at ETH Zurich focussing on various projects related to space technology, especially by competing in rocketry competitions.|
The Spaceport America Cup is an annualy Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition hosted by the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA) and the New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA). Within this event, solid, liquid and hybrid motor rockets are designed, built and tested by groups of students from all over the world. In summer 2018, those rockets will be launched targeting altitudes of up to 30,000 feet at the Spaceport America located in New Mexico and compete against each other in various categories.
--- The Competition ---
The competition is divided into six categories defined by different target apogees and the selected propulsion system. A judging panel is provided by the event organizers. Not only the flight performance of the launch including the recovery phase will be assessed, also the documentation and design implementation will be rated. Each team will present their work at the Space Port within a poster session. Projects considered to be excellent and innovative demonstrate an aspect of their launch vehicle development during a podium session.
--- The Team ---
Our Swiss team ARIS is gathering the best students of several higher education institutions who are all interested in space related technologies. The core team consists of mechanical engineering students from the ETH Zurich and is complemented by close collaboration with students from other academies like the HSLU, ZHdK etc.
Within this project, the aim is to face a technical challenge which will be solved by the students in partnership with all above mentioned Swiss academies as well as with Swiss industrial partners.
--- The Goal ---
With an exceptional design and built of a rocket we want to innovatively push forward the limits of technology. Within this event, theoretical acquired skills can be applied practice-oriented. In the end, the most important benefit is to interact and learn from people with the same interests coming from all over the world and be part of an interna
