Our mission at Back Roots Farm is to educate, encourage, and engage learners of all ages in our community, food, and the environment. We want to promote environmental knowledge, food access and affordability, and nurture a sense of place in our community.
Back Roots Farm is a work in progress! The idea of Back Roots Farm began while founder, Caitlin Lorenc, was serving in AmeriCorps in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Lorenc was motivated to take what she learned in rural Vermont and apply it to her home town in northwest lower Michigan. Starting in the fall of 2015, that's exactly what she did! Located on 7 acres in beautiful Benzie County, the focus of Back Roots Farm is to provide the local community with accessible, healthy, and affordable produce free from chemicals.
