The Bahati Foundation is a non-profit organization that inspires and empowers underprivileged youth to rise above their circumstances. Statistically, those at greatest risk for poverty today are inner city families and single parent families. The problem of persistent poverty is a complex one that includes communities and individuals, who through no fault of their own, find themselves unable to make ends meet in this globalizing information-intensive world. In many families today, children cannot say they expect to be better off than their parents. This is perhaps the greatest challenge now facing our society.
Our founder and spokesperson is champion cyclist, Rahsaan Bahati. His inspirational story reaches out to and connects with the young people from all types of backgrounds. While growing up in Compton CA, he was introduced to cycling through an after school program at the age of 12. Through that program he went to Kenosha, WI and competed at the Junior Nationals, just six months later. Incredibly, he brought home 4 medals that year and finished his junior career with over 80 victories and was picked for the U.S National Team for 5 consecutive years. Understanding the importance of education he graduated from Indiana University. As a US National Criterium champion, he is one of the leading cyclist’s in the US that competes both domestically and internationally.
