|About||Biketopia Music Collective: musicians, cyclists, puppeteers, artists and activists, mobilizing for climate justice through bicycle-powered music festivals.|
The Biketopia Music Collective (BMC) provides an interactive musical experience exclusively transported and powered by bicycles! Their unique
events harness electrical energy produced by the spinning wheels of their parked touring bikes in real-time and blend the line between performer and observer. Crowds are enlivened as a crucial part of the performance, because when they stop pedaling the music cuts out. The Biketopia Music Festival provides a living symbol of community power, and the off-grid nature of the bicycle-sound system allows environmentally friendly festivals in a myriad of locations.
The BMC is a group of musicians, artists, educators, and innovators, featuring four bands, a live painter, professional sound engineer, and circus arts:
Bicicletas por la Paz, Heather Normandale and the Cycledelics, Luminescent, Maisha Lani, Molly Keen, Mega Bloom, and Niki Danza. Their sounds take the audience on a world tour, from island vibes of Hawaii to psychedelic R&B, Latin rhythms, and plenty of folk and rock.
The collective offers a high-quality festival experience and has put on over 40 bicycle musical festivals. In 2016 BMC completed a 1400 mile/10 week bike tour, hauling their sound system, instruments, circus props, and personal gear on their bikes. In addition, they number many smaller regional tours and local festivals. The BMC works to embody a world in which we are free from fossil fuels, able to invest in renewables while harnessing the energy of collective community power.
