Our Mission: To promote the profound impact of physical activity on a child's mind, body and community.
ACTIVE KIDS = ACTIVE MINDS!
To promote the profound impact of physical activity on a child's mind, body and community.
BOKS, formerly known as Fit Kidz Get Up & Go, Inc., is a before school physical activity program developed by moms and energized by Reebok. Dr. Ratey of Harvard Medical School and author of Spark, the book that influenced the program, states that “exercise is the single most powerful tool that we have to optimize the function of our brains”.
The BOKS program runs two or three mornings a week, beginning an hour before school to help jump start our bodies and our minds for a productive day, boosting kid’s academic and physical performance and overall confidence and well-being. Classes start with a fun warm-up game and transition into running relay races or obstacle courses and skill of the week, ending with nutritional talks about making smart food choices. Interested parents and educators are trained to run the program at their school, but the program welcomes family and school staff members to volunteer.
In the Fall of 2009, the program was piloted at Memorial Elementary School in Natick, MA. Less than two years later we are proud to say that BOKS is in over 70 schools in the U.S., reaching approximately 5,600 elementary school children. BOKS has also been brought to Japan, The Netherlands, and coming soon to Korea. BOKS continues to develop expansion plans and hopes to reach schools and children across the nation by utilizing its web-based package that can be easily implemented by interested communities.
