Bushfires NT together with Volunteer Bushfire Brigades work with landowners and the wider community to protect lives, property and the environment from the threat of wildfire.
The page is administered by Bushfires NT (BFNT) staff and is a division of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Bushfires NT supports a community network of landholders, land managers and other stakeholders implement fire management throughout the Northern Territory.
Bushfires NT works with landholders and the wider community to manage bushfire in the Northern Territory by providing support for mitigation, management and suppression activities, and by coordinating landholder and volunteer participation in response to significant fires. This is achieved through coordinating and implementing:
1. The provisions of the Bushfires Management Act (2016);
2. Regional fire mitigation strategies, plans and programs;
3. Bushfire response activities across numerous tenures and regions; and
4. Providing fire management training and extension services to a variety of landholders, land managers, Volunteer Bushfire Brigade members, and other key stakeholders.
BFNT is also supported by the Bushfires Council NT and Regional Bushfire Committees that provide advice to the Minister and BFNT regarding fire management issues, priorities and related fire management activities.
