|About||California Wildlife Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of native California wildlife. HOTLINE: (310)458-WILD HOSPITAL: (818)591-WILD http://www.californiawildlifecenter.org|
Since our inception, CWC’s programs and services have worked together to advance our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and release native California wildlife.
Our Marine Mammal Response (MMR) team provides emergency assessment and paramedic rescue to sick and injured seals, sea lions, dolphins and whales. MMR staff work closely with Malibu residents, as well as city, state and federal agencies to establish appropriate responses to marine mammal emergencies. The team is responsible for rescues along a nearly 35 mile long stretch of coastline in Malibu.
CWC rehabilitation hospital provides emergency assessment, medical and supportive care for native wildlife. All animals are examined and treated by CWC’s wildlife veterinarian who is supported by hospital staff, trained interns and volunteers, and our network of veterinary and specialized care centers.
Our core belief at CWC is that wild animals benefit most from surviving on their own in their natural environment. To this end, special care is taken to keep the “wildness” of CWC’s hospital patients intact while they are recovering. Once rehabilitated and capable of survival on their own, they are released back to their home in the wild.
CWC staff and volunteers participate in many community events, environmental fairs and festivals presenting and distributing information on how individuals can co-exist with native wildlife and what to do in case of a wildlife emergency.
