Description CAJA will:
Increase visibility of horse racing - Our sport is the only sport with whose athletes their visitors can't identify themselves with. With bringing in amateur racing again, fans can cheer on people like themselves. Anyone can be an amateur jockey if they possess the skill and abilities (which would be tested by designated people before issuing licenses to ride races). These races are official pari-mutuel races which are also run in the US and have as good betting pools as regular races which make them attractive to our racetracks.
Future Canadian jockey experience – We have a shortage of experienced jockeys in Canada with a difficult time in getting that experience. The amateur status would give them the chance to experience race riding without damaging their apprenticeship time. The Amateur jockeys would also give us a great resource for the yearly charity races that increase the public perception of horse racing while raising funds for good causes.
International Recognition - Amateur races are held internationally around the globe for international competition which Canada is continually missing out of. We wish to change that. A country is required to have a minimum amount of official pari-mutuel amateur races to be eligible for these contests.
