|About||Candraft was founded in 1979 by John Cooper. Candraft is a member in good standing of the National Institute of Steel Detailers (NISD). Candraft meets the requirements of the Quality Procedures Program of the NISD.|
Candraft takes structural design drawings and architectural drawings of steel structures and bridges and creates computer based 3D models utilizing Tekla Structures software. These models can be “merged” with 3D models from other design disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire suppression, rebar, concrete etc, to construct a complete “virtual” building.
The database created during this process is used to generate 2D shop fabrication drawings for the component pieces as well as CNC data to control automated and robotic fabrication machines.
Candraft is a pioneer in “3D model approval” whereby rather than submitting 2D shop drawings to the engineer/architect for approval, we have developed a 3D model approval interface in Tekla. This enables us to submit progressive 3D models for approval with appropriate “menus” that allow the engineer of record to review the components and connections for conformance and return any comments in database form. These comments are them imported into our model and incorporated after which we produce the 2D shop fabrication drawings. This 3D model approval process was developed to work in the “Building Information Modeling” (BIM) environment, on non-BIM projects we utilize the traditional 2D shop drawings approval method.
Candraft, when required, also creates fabrication, shop assembly and field erection animation and simulation
John Cooper, the founder and President served his apprenticeship with Redpath-Dorman Long in England from 1966 to 1970 as a Structural Detailer.
Our production staff have over 600 years combined experience with Candraft alone, and are experienced in all aspects of the Steel fabrication market, including all types of steel bridges, commercial structures, public works structures, complex steel structures, hi-rise buildings, convention centers & casinos, hospitals & medical centers, stadiums, material handling, power plants and refinery projects.
Candraft has 2 offices in Vancouver, one in Toronto and one in Manila, Philippines. Candraft Philippines is owned by Candraft Vancouver and employs 35 Tekla users.
Candraft is a fully digital environment utilizing Tekla Structures. Candraft has been a Tekla user since 1997 and is currently using version 18
Candraft is sister company to Tensor Engineering of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, one of the world’s premier bridge detailing companies founded by Mr. Walter J Gatti.
Candraft –Tensor LLC of Florida is a joint venture initially created to detail the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the Huey P Long Bridge in New Orleans. Collectively, Candraft-Tensor LLC has 145 experienced personnel in 6 offices.
