Mission Caritas Switzerland works for a world that is guided by solidarity, justice, and peace, that respects the inalienable dignity and rights of every individual and in which every individual has access to food, water, health, education and work.
Description Caritas Switzerland is an independent Swiss NGO, engaged in Switzerland and in more than 30 countries worldwide, among them in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Caritas Switzerland´s goal is to sustainably fight poverty. To reach that goal, Caritas enhances equity: We support inclusive communities with opportunities for everyone regardless of their ethnic background, group affiliation or gender. The organization stems from a socially engaged Catholicism, but its activities are not influenced by any church or mission perspective.

Therefore, we implement a project that aims at the social inclusion of the Roma community by facilitating the integration of Roma children into primary and secondary education and providing vocational training for adult Roma.

As durable housing for Roma is a precondition for a successful social inclusion and a fundamental right, we construct, reconstruct, and renovate houses and apartments for Roma families in cooperation with the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and the respective municipalities.

Aiming at sustainably improving the income opportunities for rural communities in BiH, we have been supporting small-scale producers of berries in rural areas by providing access to micro-credits and knowledge and by establishing the National Union of Berry Fruit Producers. We are gradually diversifying our agricultural activities to also support small-scale vegetable producers.

In the Upper Drina Region, we are strengthening 10 multi-ethnic communities by providing trainings on various subjects and empowering the communities to lead their village development through the implementation of citizens’ initiatives. In addition, active cooperation with the municipal authorities is instigated.

In the field of energy efficiency, we are tackling energy poverty by informing on available measures to decrease energy use. Furthermore, we improve energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption
