|About||Indulgence isn't a thing of the past|
I started baking when I was 9 years old after my grandmother bought me my first easy bake oven! I was ecstatic as I took each person's "order" and baked them something "delicious." At the age of 16 my grandmother taught me to make her famous Homemade Lemon Cheesecake. As I watched mom and dad take their first bite I knew I had found my passion. My love for baking and all things food came from my dad, who got his love for cooking from his mom. His smile of approval was the reward I worked for. He was more than pleased when I took his mother's basic recipe and transformed it into a whole series of velvety smooth cheesecakes. Dad and I often talked about the possibility of opening a restaurant one day. He would serve a menu of ribs, brisket, and beans and I would serve dessert. Thanksgiving 2005, two months after my father passed away, I knew that I would continue our dream by opening a bakery and I began working toward that end.
Although time has a way of changing that wonderful sense of abandonment we loved about our childhood, I find that when I am in the kitchen the clock seems to turn backward as the sweet aroma of baked cakes spreads throughout the house. And when I take one of these beautiful masterpieces out of the oven, sit down at the dining room table, cut myself a nice thick slice and bite into one of the richest cheesecakes in the world, for just a moment I can see my father's smile of approval again. Which is why, here at Cay's Cakery, Indulgence is not a thing of the past!
