|About||VOICCD: Voices for Central Coast Disability is a peer led group run for and by people with disability and their allies. We were set up in the Central Coast in 2018 to assist people with disabilities with establishing peer to peer support networks.|
Voices for Central Coast Disability,
We are a peer to peer group that has come together on the Central Coast. Our group is run by people with a disability and their families independent of formalised services.
Our current aim is to reach out to other people with disability and their families on the Central Coast to discover what is important for them in our Central Coast community. We have been and will continue to run information and discussion sessions around topics that are important to people with a disability. We currently call these events, Planning Cafes.
With the help of the Community Disability Alliance Hunter we have also provided free workshops for people with disability and their family members on what Peer Support is and how to facilitate Peer Support Groups.
One of our goals is to empower people with a disability and their families through providing:
• Safe places for open and honest discussion,
• Opportunities for learning,
• Gatherings to meet other people who may have been through similar experiences to you.
We have been mentored by the Community Disability Alliance Hunter and have been inspired by their model of having created an independent, user led organisation committed to the rights and best interests of people with disability.
