Chefspot originated in November of 1997 as a limited company which took over the finances of the former catering department of Widemarsh Workshops. This was run by the charity known as Friends of Widemarsh Workshop whose members were parents and carers of vulnerable adults, predominantly with learning disabilities. The ideology of Chefspot was the continuation of a project that started some ten years earlier. This was to promote training and work experiences for vulnerable adults to progress within a catering organisation, originally started by the charity with the support of the management of Widemarsh Workshops to find premises and by raising community awareness of the worker’s needs.
Joint ventures by the charity and Shaw Trust found funding ready for the start of the project under its original name of HERO (Hereford Employment Resource Organisation). This unfortunately ceased when the chef employed by the council passed away and the project had to be shelved. This was resurrected and the dream was to continue to find external catering premises to carry on the original ideology (catering facility within the community supplying quality food to the general public). To continue this project, Chefspot was formed, as mentioned earlier in November 1997 as a charitable limited company to carry on the dream.
Chefspot has finally fulfilled the original ideology and dreams of its trustees and staff and eventually to support vulnerable adults seeking to obtain experience and training in the catering trade.
