|About||The City Island Bridge connects City Island with Bronx, NY. NYC DOT owns, operates and maintains the City Island Bridge.|
Constructed in 1901, the City Island Bridge is the only link between City Island and the Bronx. The steel and stone structure has served the community for 112 years, but weather and travel by as many as 16,000 vehicles a day have impacted the bridge and its components.
As the bridge approaches the end of its useful life, the New York City Department of Transportation has begun a project to reconstruct the bridge. The structure will be replaced by a cause-way style bridge that will last approximately 100 years. As part of the project, the Legion Triangle and the Catherine Scott Promenade will also be revitalized.
