Sam is the Cornwall Councillor for Saltash West.
He lives in Lower Burraton with his wife Kim and two small children. He grew up in Looe but has lived or worked in Saltash for over ten years. Sam says "We love Saltash so much that we decided to bring up our children here. I want to help make Saltash the best place for my kids to grow up in as possible."
He spent several years helping run the family's convenience stores in Looe and more recently worked for Appleby Westward (Spar) on Carkeel roundabout, advising independent retailers.
Sam hasn't been involved in politics for long; "I joined the Liberal Democrats just after the General Election in 2015 when I realised that there was no use getting angry with things unless I was also prepared to try and change them myself."
During the campaign for Cornwall Council Sam knocked on almost every door in the ward and spoke to hundreds of people on the doorstep. Sam says "The people I have spoken to are friendly but concerned about the shrinking bus services, closures at St. Barnabas hospital and the massive cuts imposed on Cornwall Council by central government."
"Saltash is my home, my future, and the future of my children is in this town. I want to do my bit to help make Saltash an even better place to live in years to come. If elected in May, I will fight to keep a Minor Injuries unit in Saltash and argue for improvements to our bus services. Together the Liberal Democrats will fight for fair funding for the NHS and adult social care."
