|Mission||To create healthier communities in the San Joaquin Valley.|
Cultiva La Salud is among a growing number of programs in the nation who use a policy and environmental change approach to help community members gain access to healthy food/beverages and safe spaces to be physical active. At the core of Cultiva La Salud's work is a dedication to investing in community leadership development in which local residents gain the critical skills and tools to take on leadership roles and help to create healthier communities.
With community residents and other key partners, Cultiva La Salud is creating healthier communities by:
Establishing farmers markets, community gardens and school farm stands in underserved neighborhoods.
Supporting small stores in their conversion to healthy stores.
Limiting access to unhealthy beverages in schools and communities and improving access to fresh, free drinking water.
Establishing healthier school meal programs.
Working with school officials to open school gates after hours and on weekends for community use and safe, active play.
Increasing physical activity and physical education in schools and after-school programs.
Improving park and other community amenities such as sidewalks, walking trails and bicycle lanes.
Promoting health in planning and community development/design strategies.
Encouraging physical activity and healthy eating opportunities in communities through various media outlets.
