|About||The W.E.B. DuBois Academy is open to all male students. It will offer an Afrocentric curriculum & an innovative learning environment. Opens in August 2018|
The W.E.B. DuBois Academy is a new program in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) opening during the 2018-19 school year. The DuBois Academy’s inaugural class will consist of 150 sixth-grade students, and in subsequent years, the program will grow to become a sixth- through eighth-grade academy serving 450 students. Each student will receive a personal device (Chrome Book or iPad), and we will be a 1:1 school for technology.
The DuBois Academy is open to all male students and will offer an Afrocentric curriculum and an innovative learning environment. The core tenets of the program emphasize academic skills, such as literacy, numeracy, social sciences, technology usage, and speaking a foreign language. In addition, we show P.R.I.D.E. by focusing on leadership attributes, such as perseverance, responsibility, integrity, discipline, and effort.
Finally, the pedagogical practices of the DuBois Academy draw from evidence-based research and culturally responsive teaching to actively engage our scholars as they grow as learners and self-aware young men.
