In pursuit of himself, of his own thoughts and of the real experiences of his everyday life, Gianandrea Poletta creates a true artist's book in which he is both the main character and an actor.

He presents his story on stage, to the public, through a series of readings that will be held between April and May at various locations: Rome, Milan and Turin.

His work is the product of a collaboration with Untitled Association, that annually organizes the Menabrea Art Prize of which Poletta won the sixth edition. TABOO - published by CURA.books - is characterized by the use of multiple mediums such as drawing, sculpture, photography and writing.

Gianandrea Poletta's work is strongly defined by the artist’s own life and personal experiences. So TABOO, his first artist's book, is a collection of short stories written in the first person, a series of low resolution phone pictures, and a rich array of ink and marker pen drawings arranged in a sequence that overlaps mediums and time.

For Gianandrea Poletta, experience underlies and triggers the entire creative process, from his chronicle writings from the Milan underground, to his bruised gestural drawings depicting ambiguous figures.

The artist is not afraid of telling the truth and leaving his intuition free, so if on one hand TABOO looks like a coming-of-age book, on the other hand it is structured according to an anarchic and free form.

As Attilia Fattori Franchini wrote in the introduction, the sparkling scenario of these vicissitudes - sometimes incandescent, sometimes grotesque - is Italy, the bigoted provinces of the North and mainly, as previously said, the city of Milan.

Witnessing, embracing and rejecting ...

In constant movement between the suburbs and the city center, each place - be it elegant, popular or underground - confers different attitudes to the everyday life narrated in the book, revealing mysterious connections.

TABOO is an artist's book that wants us to enter strongly and intensely in its pages between characters and sometimes trivial references that are part of our collective imagination. No matter how distant the reader can be at the beginning, he is able to identify and find himself in TABOO, as he is now, or as he once was.
