SAT 19 MAY 1-3PM

The 8 Limbs of Yoga is a progressive workshop series dedicated to the curious yoga practitioner who seeks to know more of the origins and application of yoga – beyond the physical postures we often identify with in the west.
We will explore the philosophy of traditional yogic texts and connect with them in a personally, meaningful and practical way.
Each month we will explore asana, pranayama, mantra and mudra. There will be lots of discussion and practical exercises to support our learning prior to the physical practices.
Please note, you do not need to attend all 8 workshops; you may be selective, attend one, two.. or maybe all!
Beginning with an overview of the 8 Limbs of Yoga; the historical origins of this term ‘Yoga’, followed by an exploration of the first limb, the 5 Yamas – 5 ethical/moral restraints which constitute a good life.
Kindness / Truthfullness / Non-stealing / Moderation / Generosity.
Discussions, journaling and a self-connection meditation will support our investigations.
An exploration into the second limb, the 5 Niyamas – 5 codes of observances.
Purity / Contentment / Self-discipline / Self-study / Surrender.
Discussion, journaling, and a self-connection meditation will support our investigations; as well as an exploration of various techniques (for example, blind folded asana), to explore surrender (Sanskrit: Ishvaraprandihana), and cleansing techniques for the home and body (Sanskrit: Saucha).
