Evening’s theme: The Citizen!
“Parov yegar, Oh Citizen, oh hazar pari”
Join us for another exciting evening of exploring the landscapes of Armenian-American "78 rpm recordings!
H. Arakelian will present a unique story loosely told in three musical sections shared from the selections of his collection. Our musical travelogue will explore the experience of the immigrant as well as the influences of the citizen. We’ll begin in the streets of West Hoboken, then we'll venture off and travel to various points throughout the country spanning the course of a few decades.
Expect a night filled with stories of hardship and opportunity, featuring the music of Hovsep Shamlian and Edward Bogosian. Join us and partake in an exploration of the various renditions of similar songs, such as, Chem-oo-Chem & Horoum-Horoum. H. Arakelian will share his research of the varied and uniquely different performance styles. We’ll hear selections like the jazz rhythms of Anahid and the Batt Masian Orchestra, the beautiful melodies performed by the Vosbikian’s, the progressive sounds of the Nor Ikes and a song titled Shad Anoush, as well as many other songs. Our final destination of the night may be a recording of a live performance from Carnegie Hall, recorded on February 7, 1947.
There will be a few other surprises at this informal evening of music.Abril Bookstore's Music Nights presents
