This won’t be a sit-down-and-listen course. Our Scrum Master course is fast-paced and engaging. So please dress so that you are comfortable. Don’t worry, it won’t be anything too athletic!

Above all, it should be informative and fun!







Prerequisites
Although not compulsory, to get the most out of this course you should study the Scrum Guide prior to attending the course. This is the definition of Scrum, which has been carefully authored by the co-creators of Scrum, Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber. It’s only 19 pages long, so you can even read it several times on the bus or train, from cover-to-cover!

Carl was fortunate to be able to formalise his knowledge of Scrum by gaining his Certified Scrum Master (CSM) qualification under Dr. Jeff Sutherland, the co-inventor of Scrum. Jeff’s infectious passion and simplistic vision cemented Carl’s already established commitment to Scrum and was influential in Carl training and mentoring his Scrum Team win 2 of the UK's coveted awards (considered the Oscars of IT), the 2014 UK IT Industry Awards for The Crown Estate’s Marine Data Exchange, a technically challenging renewable energy Big Data project.

With a demanding career, spanning 26 years, as a SharePoint Specialist and seasoned Technical Programme Manager for major international Blue Chips and government organisations, Carl has expert knowledge and hands-on experience of both Waterfall (PRINCE2) and Agile project delivery at all levels.

Starting his career in IBM and Wang mainframe operations, then moving into software development and project management, Carl has always been technically hands-on at all stages of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). Whilst coaching teams to maximise the benefits of Agile for successful product delivery, Carl is equally at home in C-suite boardroom meetings, strategizing governance policy, risk management and project delivery with stake holders as he is with his sleeves rolled up, cutting code with software developers.

Carl's Approach
As Senior Consultant, Carl’s time is divided between overseeing the delivery of all Agile software products, whilst authoring, continuously improving and delivering transformational classroom Agile training courses and on-the-job workshops to customers: C-suite, middle management, Product Owners, Scrum Masters and co-located/distributed Development Teams. Recognising the importance of trainee engagement for enhanced learning, Carl’s training sessions are highly interactive, making extensive use of Agile games mixed with scenario-based team problem-solving.

Back to Basics Scrum
By adhering to a simple formula of back-to-basics Scrum and Kanban, Carl has mentored numerous smaller teams to become highly productive, surpassing the productivity levels of much larger teams. Carl’s techniques enable teams to deliver quality working software with every Sprint and this has won him some challenging development projects with global companies.
