Said by many to compose music that reflects a new dimension of ‘protest music’, Shayan’s music are anything but the mainstream contemporary kind. Containing a touch of the music given to us by Maqsood and Azam Khan in the 70s and 80s, her first album talks about politics, culture, art and culture. Her lyrics are known to be powerful in which she sheds light on the current condition of the country, recalling the war of 1971.
Her music has always been based on a variety of stories. Her most popular songs include, “O Neta Bhai”, “Du’chokh Diyei Dekho”, “Ami Tajjob Boney Jai”, “Ekhanei Shuh Chilo Ekdin”, “Janatar Biyadobbi” that carry a range of subjects starting from the corruption in general politics today to the unnecessary comparison made between Nazrul and Tagore just to mention a few.
Don’t miss the chance to listen to her eclectic collection influenced by Tracy Chapman , Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and Bhupen Hazarika which has been called ‘Jibonmukhi gaan’ for an inability to categorize. Listen to the music she has developed through her own life experiences which she uses to protest and speak out about.
