Nationally and locally the issue of affordable housing has been a major impediment to working people. While wages have stagnated for working people, housing has become increasingly out of site for many. According to one study, the average cost to rent a two bedroom home would require a worker to make over $20 an hour in the state of Florida, meanwhile the state minimum wage is only $8.25 an hour, meaning that a working family of two adults both earning minimum wage would be unable to afford a home big enough for a family.
In light of this gross injustice and the failure of local, state, and federal governments to do anything about it, it's time that working people begin organizing around the issue of winning affordable housing for all! Join Socialist Alternative for a branch discussion on how we can begin to think about tackling this issue both locally and throughout the state and nation. Solidarity!
