Few directors can do excess like Michael Bay, and BAD BOYS II piles it on so high, you get queasy with glee. Every time you think it isn’t about to go that far, it goes further.
When a movie starts with Will Smith gloriously busting out of a Ku Klux Klan robe brandishing two guns, the rest of that 147 minute run time can’t let up. And it doesn’t. With some scenes reaching Hong Kong action movie levels of chaos and destruction, our heroes, Miami detectives Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) set out to take down drug lords while also keeping their life-long friendship tight. Along the way they dodge corpses, airborne vehicles and horny rats, often times while bickering like a married couple.
Don’t let the run time dissuade you - revel in the complete madness even as it reaches levels of wrong that you never dreamt were possible.
