Join us for the first workshop in our cycle, Practical Life!
The Practical Life materials form the foundations to all of the Montessori materials. The Practical Life materials introduce the very beginnings of independence to the children, showing them how to live in their own environment. A child who has mastered pouring beans from one jug to another will then progress to smaller jugs using water. Once this is mastered, the child can
pour his own drinks at the snack table and offer to pour milk for his friends so practising both independence and how to be part of a social group.
The other reason for the importance of the exercises is that they first develop gross motor skills that then are refined as the child becomes more skilled. The aim is always towards strengthening the arms and hands so that the grips that are needed for learning to write are developed early on. Practical Life can be started very early in the child’s life with things from around the home and activities using familiar objects help the children to settle in to their new Children's House environment.
The fee for the weekend is £226.26
