Corn Island is a fable of life and death set in the dreamy landscapes of the fringes of Eastern contemporary Europe and was shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2014. It is an exquisitely made and photographed picture from Georgia that draws you into its elegant and beautiful world. The story centres around an old man and his granddaughter, who live on a fertile estuary created every spring by the Inguri river. In this year his regular routine is disturbed by an unexpected intrusion; and while this places their safety at risk, it also serves to unlock a set of inevitable emotions for the young girl in her coming of age.

Corn Island won the Crystal Globe prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
This film is a sensory delight with a strong emotional pay-off. Highly recommended.
