“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” Audition Notice
AMP will hold auditions for this show at 1.00pm on Sunday April 8th. Show dates are;
July 13, 14, 19, 20 21st at 7.30 with a 2.30 matinee on the 15th. Rehearsal days/ times to be agreed following casting.
Based on the novel by Mark Haddon, this adaptation by Simon Stephens enjoyed considerable critical & commercial success in both London's West End & on Broadway, garnering numerous awards including the Tony for Best Play in 2015.
The central character, 15 year old Christopher, finds the corpse of his neighbor's dog impaled on a garden fork! This gruesome discovery provokes him to begin an enquiry into the circumstances & a search for the culprit. His mission takes him on an unexpected journey & uncovers some significant surprises. The task is hampered both by his father's opposition & a lack of cooperation from potential witnesses. Beyond that, Christopher is coping with being somewhere on the Autism scale though exactly where is not clear. His, perhaps consequential, mathematical genius manifests itself in the logical approach he adopts to everything.
Set in England, the action moves between Christopher's family home in Swindon & London...& back again.
The format is somewhat of 'a play within a play' & utilizes Christopher's teacher, Siobhan as the narrator of his diaries.
As stated, the action takes place entirely in England & I would hope to cast actors for whom a British accent is either presently available or achievable. This is quite a physical play with lots of movement & for the ensemble, plenty of quick changes. Many of the scenes will require some quite careful choreographing of movement (not dancing!).
The audition will consist of cold readings but those interested are encouraged to study the script prior to auditions.
Please be prepared to give details of all conflicts between April 8th & July 21st.
