In this three-session workshop, we will engage in “wordplay” and experiment with writing prompts – fooling around with words and images – and see what emerges.
Thursday, April 26, 2018
In our first dip into the “word pool” we will look at where we come from and what matters– using sensory detail to create a word picture of some period in our lives. We’ll also do some “free-writes’ to discover what we have to say.

Our second session will start with a poem by Rumi –“The Guest House” – and we will go from there into work with pastels, markers, and images. We will also be using “The Book of Qualities” as a writing prompt to create characters out of “qualities” – example “Excitement wears orange socks, and he likes to hang out with Exuberance and Agitation. They often get themselves into trouble when they are together.”
Thursday, May 10, 2018
Third session – “Some questions you may have” – using questions as prompts, we will come up with more questions and find some poetic answers.
Bring your curiosity, your favorite pen and your sense of wonder (and if you aren’t sure where you saw it last, these sessions will help you locate it!). We will work with writing prompts of all sorts – poems and quotes by others, a word bowl, ”free-writes”, images, and our own memories and stories to create and share poetry and maybe even a little visual art. Leave your inner critic at home and come out to play!
