CAROSELLO PUGLIA - Wednesday, 16 May
This month we travel to one of Italy's most eclectic and beautiful regions, Puglia, the 'heel' of the 'boot' of Italy located bewteen the Adriatic and Ionian seas. It is Italy's most popular holiday destination thanks to it's pristine white beaches and azure waters and of course it's diverse local culture.
Puglia’s long history is infused with influences of Greek, Turkish, and Spanish invaders who left their footprint on the many iconic buildings scattered through the south of the region, whilst the north of Puglia is home to many towns and castles built under the Roman Empire and Norman rule. And no-one really knows what the origins are of the "cone-shaped" houses of ALBEROBELLO which is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE and definitely a sight not to be missed during a trip to Puglia.
History has not only left it's mark in the architecture and language of the eclectic region of Puglia, but it has also very strongly influenced it's cuisine. Peasants struggled to live off the land and used whatever produce and basic ingredients they could find including wild plants and vegetables to create hearty and very delicious meals. What was once called LA CUCINA POVERA of Puglia, has become a delicacy in Italy and is now renowned around the world.
Come and taste our version of the famous ORECCHIETTE (ear-shaped pasta) ALLE CIME DI RAPE which used to be made with the bitter wild turnip leaves. Or try the "M'PEPATA DI COZZE ALLA TARANTINA", a delicious tomato based soup of black mussels served with crusty bread... and so much more including the famous red wine which is taking the world by storm.... NEGROAMARO.
So join us for this eclectic night of cuisine and come and try some of Puglia's famous specialties.
