AP Art Lab is pleased to present Confrontations, featuring photographic documentation of performance works by Robert Mata and sculptural installation by Juan Vallejo. The works presented complement one other through parallel purposes of delineating private and public sociological phenomena.
Robert Mata captures this delineation through the surreal task of attempting to rationalize the hypocritical contradictions between the idea of America put forth at the nation's conception and it’s expression in contemporary politics. Mata investigates what it might take to reconcile this difference through personal growth and discovery.
Influenced by his Mexican heritage, Juan Vallejo reveals a narrative of sacrifice, industry, and gumption as created through his family’s years of migrant labor. He reflects on the wisdom gained through this lived experience and allows for the visual elucidation of personal history to be quickly felt within the public realm.
Join us for an opening reception April 14th from 7-10pm.
