Help us celebrate the 2018 Apple Ridge Farm Homecoming by joining us for the inaugural Apple Ridge Hill Climb. This lung-busting climb ascends over 300 feet in elevation in just 3/4 of a mile. It takes you from the bridge at the entrance to the farm all the way to the summit of Lewis Mountain.
This climb is in the spirit of the "Vertical Kilometer" -- an event in the "skyrunning" discipline where competitors ascend 1,000 meters (over 3,000 ft) in less than 3 miles. The Apple Ridge Hill Climb is a great introduction to the sport of mountain running, while being "hiker-friendly" for those who want to walk instead.
After starting on the gravel road at the entrance of the property, you'll climb on the Old Conner Road past Starr's House, then hit the welcome relief of shady woods on the Conner Ridge Trail. You'll get a short break from climbing when you rejoin the road, making your way past the railroad caboose and E-Base, the observatory, and the Copper Hill Overlook. Then it's back to serious uphill business for the final push up the 11% grade of the Lewis Mountain Summit Trail. The finish -- at the base of the climbing tower -- is in sight!
You can push yourself to get up the mountain as fast as possible OR you can elect to hike this climb with friends or family just to be a part of a special event on a special day. All participants will receive a commemorative water bottle. Special prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories!
Your registration fee of $20 also allows you access to the Homecoming festivities going on all on day, a $15 value. NOTE: climbing wall and zip-line require an extra fee.
