The Boilermaker Jazz Band is proud to be featuring a wonderful concert: “When Swing Was King – The Music of Benny Goodman”. This full show features the best of Benny’s small band classics, big band themes, and great tunes made famous by Goodman’s Gals.
Benny Goodman was known as the King of Swing. His iconic Big Band recordings of the 1930s & ‘40s are instantly recognizable and still popular today.

But Benny also featured a wonderful small band that could play it hot– really sizzling on tunes like Slipped Disc and Airmail Special– and delicate on lovely numbers like Memories of You. This was a trailblazing group and was the first openly integrated band performing in concerts halls and movies.

In this concert Paul Cosentino and the Boilermaker Jazz Band will bring the energy and delicate swing of the small bands to you, performing some of their best-known material. You’ll also hear some of your favorite Goodman Big Band melodies, done small band style.

Jennifer McNulty sings selections by Benny’s Gals, including hits by Peggy Lee, Liltin’ Martha Tilton and the Helen’s- Ward and Forrest.
