Our Fundraising Spinathon is back! Our Spinners will be taking to their bikes next Friday, 6 April, 8am-8pm at Ardkeen Stores and would love some support! Why not drop by to cheer them on and maybe make a wee donation. All proceeds go to supporting our arts programmes at UHW. Our sincere thanks to our loyal sponsors AIB Ardkeen and to the lovely folks at Ardkeen Quality Food Store :) :) If you'd like to help out, we need a few more volunteers to help with collecting on the day. Further details, including registration and sponsorship cards for spinners, are available from Waterford Healing Arts Trust (051) 842664 / what@hse.ie. See also www.waterfordhealingarts.com

Established in 1993, WHAT brings arts experiences to the bedsides of patients at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and other healthcare settings. These experiences include Healing Sounds, a live music programme on the wards and in the hospital foyer; the mobile Art Kart, which travels to many of the hospital wards; the Artist on Call service, responding to individual patient needs; the Arts Programme in the Renal Dialysis Unit; the Staff Art Wall and the extensive UHW Art Collection. Through these programmes, Waterford Healing Arts Trust seeks to soften the clinical environment and alleviate stress and anxiety for patients, family members and staff. The organisation also supports the development of arts and health throughout Ireland and manages the resource website www.artsandhealth.ie

Announcing details of the Spinathon, Shirley O’Shea of the WHAT Fundraising Committee, said “In 2017, with very kind support from AIB Ardkeen, our Spinathon raised in excess of €6000.00, all of which went towards continuing the arts programmes at University Hospital Waterford. We are very grateful to Ardkeen Stores for their support and sincerely hope other local businesses and the Waterford public will come on board again this year. We’re fortunate to have this wonderful organisation here in Waterford, so let’s do all we can to support them.”

Carol Normoyle, Branch Manager of AIB Ardkeen, added “WHAT is close to the hearts of the people of Waterford as we can all see and feel the difference their arts programmes make to the hospital experience. Customers of the bank have actually spoken vividly about the difference music in the hospital setting has made to their experience, so AIB Ardkeen staff are proud to support the tremendous work of Waterford Healing Arts Trust, and we’ll be getting on the bikes again this year on Friday 6th April!”
